Ansys Optics 2024 R2 – More realism, better interoperability, and faster computation
Ansys Optics solutions offer robust design, optimization, and verification simulation that empower you to expedite the development of groundbreaking optical products while improving performance, reliability, and yield.
With newest 2024R2 release of Ansys Optics software, you can experience more realism, better interoperability and faster computation. In my opinion as an optical designer this is great, as modern optical systems demand more flexible and versatile analysis, with multiple software, to achieve reliable and productive results.
With some amazing benefits, like fast multi-core computation of MTF* optimization in Zemax and new Speos Physical Camera system for extremely fast stray light analysis and real-world image quality assessment, optical designers can see accurate results on the fly without waiting for an over-night simulation.

Here are my personal favorite three cool things that take optical designing even further with Ansys 2024R2.
Realism of simulations
I have noticed that this area is constantly improving release by release, and 2024R2 Ansys Optics software (Lumerical/Speos/Zemax) bring simulations closer to real world impacts by improving analysis of: Stray Light, Tolerance and Fabrication Error, Automotive Lighting System against regulatory standards, and PIC Designs through streamlined workflow in multi-physics simulation tools.
Interoperability of design software
Interoperability and connected workflows are the keys to more extensive analysis and a better design. In Ansys 2024R2, Optical Design Exchange feature has been improved between Zemax and Speos by adding new object types and review access to all parameters. The black box option on the Speos Light Box introduced in Speos 2024 R1 is now supported by Speos for Creo Parametric and provides additional privacy and protection for proprietary designs. Lumerical has multiple workflow improvements to enhance Photonic Integrated Circuit and Co-Packaged Optics designing.
Computational efficiency for usability
Computation must be as efficient as possible to yield the best design with provided computational power. Ansys 2024R2 computational efficiencies have been improved by adding multi-threading capability to new features in Zemax, as well as Lumerical. Speos has enhanced the results experience, by adding options to Live Preview for reducing number simulations, ability to rely more on immediate memory, as well as better light source control for Virtual Lighting Controller.
*Modulation Transfer Function (MTF): MTF measures how well an optical system can reproduce (transfer) the contrast of various spatial frequencies from the object to the image. It quantifies the system’s ability to preserve details and contrast as a function of spatial frequency.
